Our Story

Cunningham’s Pharmacy first opened it’s doors in 2002 across from Athlone IT. From the outset our ethos was to put our customers at the centre of everything we do and that is still the case today.

A second store followed in 2007 in Monksland on the Roscommon side of Athlone. Over the years both have blossomed into two bustling independent stores, one in Roscommon and the other in Westmeath, but both in Athlone in the heart of Ireland. 

2019

In 2019 our stores had the honour of both making it into the Retail Excellence’s Top 10 stores in Ireland and subsequently our Monksland store went on to become Retail Excellence’s National Pharmacy of the Year 2020.

2021

Our Dublin Rd store made it into the Top 125 stores in the Retail Excellence awards

2023

Our Monksland store once again made it into the Top 3 of the National Pharmacy of the Year Retail Excellence awards and into the Top 30 of the overall Retail Excellence Awards

This is an absolutely superb store with really strong curation and merchandising that is carefully considered and creative. Love the personal touches with furniture and storytelling tone of voice. This is a world class pharmacy and retail offer. Well done!

Our Staff Makes Us

More than anything though it is our staff that makes us the pharmacy we are proud to be today. Within our stores there is always a helping hand , a shoulder to lean on and a listening ear. We have always been a bricks and mortar store, ingrained in our community, first and foremost but in 2020 we have taken the leap into the online world of pharmacy commerce. 

We are looking forward to bringing what we have learned over the years to the next leg of our journey!
